Ecohealth Reports

Wayne Lawler/AWC

AWC’s Ecohealth monitoring program has been developed to measure and report on the status and trend of species, ecological processes and threats at all AWC sanctuaries and partnership projects. At each site a range of ecological indicators are selected, which focus on species at risk of decline, major threatening processes, and a broad range of other metrics for wildlife and vegetation.

AWC protects more than 90 nationally threatened vertebrate species, of which nearly 40 are subject to regular monitoring. By measuring populations at regular intervals, AWC’s monitoring program aims to identify the ecological return on investment. Our monitoring also allows us to identify any declines which may prompt a revision of our management strategies. A well-designed monitoring framework is critical to the on-ground success of AWC.
